Benefits of Using Timber Flooring

If you’re considering timber flooring on the Gold Coast, The Flooring Depot team is here for you. We specialise in high quality flooring materials and can help you get exactly what you want and need for every room in your house. A popular choice is timber for many reasons, but you’ll be surprised at how it can transform the look and feel of your space, while also adding instant value to your home. But that’s not the only benefit that timber flooring has to offer.

Easy to Clean

One of the best reasons to choose timber flooring is that it’s simple to keep it clean. Unlike carpet, you won’t have to worry about ground in stains or spots that get ruined. Timber floors need a sweep and mop a couple of times per week and that’s about it. You’ll want to be careful about scratching it or letting water stand on the timber, but otherwise, this material is ideal when it comes to easy cleaning.

Durable and Long Lasting

Replacing your flooring is expensive and you don’t want to have to do it more than is necessary. That’s another great reason to choose timber. It’s very durable and can hold up to everyday life, even with kids and pets in the house. It’s also designed to last, even in areas that experience heavy foot traffic. That means you can rely on your beautiful new timber floors for many years to come.

Boost Your House Value

As mentioned above, adding timber flooring to your house increases its value. This is ideal if you plan to sell anytime soon, but it also a great idea if you’re planning to stay put for now. Keep in mind that your timber flooring must be well maintained to hold its value and add value to your house, but once you do decide to sell, you’ll be surprised at how much more quickly your home may sell with the timber flooring in place.

It Ages Well

Unlike other kinds of flooring materials, including carpet and linoleum, timber flooring ages well, keeping its great looks for many years. In fact, timber flooring often looks better with age, which means it will continue to keep your home looking beautiful and modern, even if it’s been awhile since it was installed.

Choosing the right finish – finding the right timber flooring for your home

It’s worth spending a little time choosing the perfect timber flooring, so you’re welcome to call us on 07 5535 0011 or Contact Us Online with any questions you have. Here are a few tips to get you started on finding the right timber flooring.

1. Decide between hardwood or engineered wood flooring

Hardwood flooring is “straight from the tree” whilst engineered wood flooring is made from different layers that are bonded together. Hardwood used to be the top choice but engineered wood is edging ahead in the popularity stakes, largely because it’s easier to install and uses less of the precious slow-growing wood that we all need to preserve.

2. Decide on the colour

The first step in choosing your colour is to get a bunch of samples from your supplier. Test these out in different parts of the room to see how they respond to variations in light. As a rule of thumb, it’s generally best to stick to lighter flooring in a dark room.

3. Decide on the finish

Most quality wood flooring options will be pre-finished, so they will look pretty much the same as they did in the showroom. Some flooring (usually cheaper wood like pine) can be painted, so this is a good option if you want a coloured floor, but it will wear quite quickly.

4. Decide whether you want an oiled or varnished finish

Not all timber flooring will need to be oiled or varnished, but for some floors, it will increase durability and good looks. Varnish is the toughest finish, but oil looks more natural.

Timber Flooring FAQs

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions:

Is timber flooring always better than laminate?

There’s no easy answer to this. The main benefit of timber is that it ages well and has an authenticity that’s hard to beat. It is expensive though, and quality timber laminate is a good alternative.

Can I have underfloor heating with a timber floor?

Possibly. For timber, the key factor is fitting and whether the flooring will be placed as a floating floor. Engineered wood flooring can almost always be used with underfloor heating.

What sort of wood is best to use for a timber floor?

For high traffic areas, wood like walnut or oak is best, while rooms used less frequently will cope with a cheaper variety.
